Quick Opacity Mask Tutorial in Illustrator CS5.5

I honestly wish that would have known about opacity masks a lot sooner in my life. Before in illustrator I would use the pathfinder tool to cut shapes. If I had known about opacity masks it would have saved me a lot of time. I made a quick tutorial, I mean, super quick tutorial, (it’s only 18 seconds ) showing how I used the opacity mask to cut “Tee” out of the circle...

Silly Goose and the Avocado Moose: Pg 17

I am very excited about the illustrations done for the book “Silly Goose and the Avocado Moose; A Wonderful Adventure” by David Shimones. I will not be giving away the whole book, you will just have to buy the book to see them all. ;) This book in particular has a lot of detail and colors. This is something that David really wanted. The detail helped make the illustrations more interesting and fun.

I just completed another children’s book. The name of the story is “Silly Goose and the Avocado Moose; A Wonderful Adventure” by David Shimones. This is a start short stories involving a lot of alliteration and lots of colorful characters. Silly Goose and Avocado Moose are best friends who go on a Adventure and see all unique types of animals. For example, Strawberry Bear, Apple Pie Cat,  Watermelon toad etc. I am a big fan of rhyming books and colorful characters. I am looking forward to seeing the book published and will update with a link when it...

BlankieTails Packaging

In previous blog posts I talked about doing the hang tag designs for BlankieTails. BlankieTails is a fairly new product that is quickly growing in popularity. BlankieTails makes shark and mermaid blankets for children of all ages.  The have recently created shark and mermaid blankets in adult sizes too.  They are soft and warm. The blankets are great for at home and on the go. I was hired to make the box packaging for their kid and adult mermaid and shark tails for a trade show event. I have only done packaging mock ups before and have never done the full blown packaging. I got to work with amazing people from the company. It was a great and enjoyable learning experience for me. I also created the T-shirts that they wore to the trade show. I love when my work is printed out as physical and tangible thing. Check out BlankieTails here:...

Fairy and Tractor

Fairy and Tractor character design project was not only fun but special. The client that I did this project for has a young daughter, who, just learned to read and is in love with writing her own stories. Her short stories are centered around her two characters Tractor and Fairy.  The client wanted me to create his daughters two characters in different poses and angles for her to add to her story. In addition, possibly get a poster printed and a stuffed toy made. Note: This project I started close to Christmas. I was amazed how creative and unique this gift was for someone he loved so much. I have a huge soft spot for kids and I was honored to help make this gift. Because of my excitement on this project I had it completed within a few days. During the process of the project I myself falling in love with the characters and their personality’s. I was very satisfied with the end product and had to share just a few of the images.    ...

A long and stacked version and two monograms. I love Leslie’s photography. She is not only a friend but a very talented professional photographer. I hope to get some pictures taken of my baby. Sammy Tannamie’s Wayward Tomato Vine

I had the pleasure of working with Barbara “J.T.” Cooley,  on her children’s book. For more information about this book check it out here: http://sammytannamie.com/ This book was in a style that I haven’t had the opportunity to do before.  I love the minimal color choice that J.T chose. It made this book unique and special in its own...
